The Lincoln Group of DC has had one of its most active years in our history, and we’re looking to make 2022 even better.
During the past two years we’ve expanded our offerings to include monthly Zoom-based video programs. This year we also developed and taught a course on Abraham Lincoln, which we’ll present free to the membership on succeeding Thursdays in January. We started the current year by contributing to a program on “Teaching Lincoln.” In the spring, we presented “The Case for Honoring Abraham Lincoln” in conjunction with the Illinois State Society. Meanwhile, our new website (Lincolnian.org) has garnered rave reviews from Lincoln Group members, as well as Lincoln afficionados around the nation. And all this is while still providing great programs, a quarterly newsletter, and a monthly study forum to our membership. The Lincoln Group is nationally recognized for our long history of contribution to Lincoln studies. Our members can be proud of the organization they have helped create.
In addition to getting back to in-person meetings, the headline event for 2022 is the rededication of the Lincoln Memorial on its 100th Anniversary in May. The Lincoln Group has been working with the National Park Service to produce an exemplary program featuring Lincoln scholars such as Harold Holzer, dignitaries such as the Secretary of the Interior, a special presentation by the eminent Dr. Charlotte Morris (President of Tuskegee University), and some entertainment figures that should be recognizable to all of us. [More details coming in January]
To do all of this we’ll need some additional resources. In the past we were able to rely on fees collected during our in-person events, along with contributions from our leadership and members. As the year comes to a close, we’re asking our membership to consider donating to the Lincoln Group of DC to position us for even greater service. We’ll especially need to raise funds for the Lincoln Memorial Centennial event to be held May 22, 2022.
Please take a moment now to show your support with a special contribution. Go to Lincolnian.org and use the “Donate” button to send a gift via credit card or PayPal. Or if you prefer, send a check made out to The Lincoln Group of DC, P.O. Box 5676, Washington, D.C. 20016. If specifically for the Lincoln Memorial Centennial event, indicate as such on your check.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Enjoy the rest of the holiday season!
