About the Event
Abraham Lincoln was seven years old in 1816 when his family crossed the Ohio River into Indiana and settled on a farm near Little Pigeon Creek. He has been described as a Kentuckian by birth and an Illinoisan by profession. But his time in Indiana has often been overlooked and undervalued. Over the next 14 years before the family would move again to Illinois, Indiana shaped young Abe’s childhood memories and his social habits.
Lincoln Group board member and resident Hoosier Scott Schroeder will present on Lincoln’s life in Indiana at our meeting on April 22. This talk will examine Lincoln’s time in Indiana and how his experiences there influenced the man he would become. As he grew older, Abraham increased in his skill with the plow and, especially, the axe.
