Lincoln Group board member and tour director Craig Howell will lead a free tour of historic Rock Creek Cemetery for Lincoln Group members and their guests on Saturday May 10, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Rain date is May 17). The cemetery is across the street from the Lincoln Cottage and may be reached by public transportation. Parking within the cemetery will be available.
The cemetery is the final resting place for a number of figures who were personally or politically close to Abraham Lincoln, as well as a number of other interesting people who were nationally or locally famous. This will be our first tour of the cemetery since the late, great Steve Carson guided us around in 2000.
The cemetery's park-like setting also has several notable mausoleums, sculptures, and tombstones. The best known is the Adams Memorial, a contemplative, androgynous bronze sculpture seated before a block of granite that was created…
