About the Event
Freedom’s Temple: The Lincoln Memorial, a new play by Bryce O. Stenzel. The Lincoln Group and the Civil War Round Table of DC present this world premier event, a dramatic reading of excerpts from an original script. Use the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/73777333091?pwd=V05ZQm9iSDlLSHcvSk4zYTJuMGpidz09
Produced by Lincoln Group's Debbie Jackson, this is the first reading of a script that gives key background information about the design, construction, and evolving meaning of the Lincoln Memorial. The play provides behind the scenes insights too often unknown or overlooked. Key characters include the designers and builders, as well as Marian Anderson and the agent that advocated on her behalf. You will hear the words of Dr. Robert Moton, the sole African American speaker at the May 1922 dedication, whose remarks were censured as “too radical” for the Jim Crow era organizers. The reading is being directed by award-winning actor and director KenYatta Rogers. A stellar cast of actors will read with editorial assistance from CWRTDC president Kurt DeSoto and Lincoln Group vice president of special programs Debbie Jackson.
Following the reading there will be a Q&A in which audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions, offer suggestions, and effectively crowd-source the further development of this play. This is a Zoom-only event. Join us via the link above. This event is open to everyone at no charge. Bring your friends!
